The Tessa Mackenzie Clock Collection is a collaboration between Paulin and glazier and illustrator, Tessa Mackenzie. The dials were screen printed in Tessa's studio in the East End of Glasgow. Tessa’s collection explores the process of designing for material. The work builds on an ongoing project; originally translating observational drawings into tapestry patterns, then to glass, and then Dibond. This playful process – a kind of visual game of telephone – aims to articulate the relationship between pattern and material. Each of the five dial designs is an edition of two and has been signed by the artist. The clock is made from cork and aluminium with a sweeping second hand. OH no Quartz Red
The OH no Modul is a collaboration between Paulin and the San Jose type foundry OH no. This partnership was born out of our mutual love of typography and our particular fondness for the font Obviously, used across Paulin’s identity. The watch was launched in California as part of San Francisco’s Wind Up Watch Fair. The expressive dial design references California’s design history, with a colour palette that takes cues from local design icons Sister Corita Kent and Saul Bass. In contrast to the uniform geometry of the original Modul, the dial features OH no’s free-form bespoke numerals. Their interlocking layout playfully tests legibility, with exaggerated emphasis on the 12, 3, 6 and 9. Powering the watch is the reliable Swiss-made ETA 955.112 with an intricate blue and gold design. The case diameter is 35mm, with a choice between a vintage-style hesalite or premium machined sapphire box-crystal. At only 8.2mm thick, it’s a comfortable wear across a wide variety of wrist sizes. Jim Ramsay Clock Collection
The Jim Ramsay Clock Collection is a collaboration between Paulin and the artist, Jim Ramsay. Each dial has been individually designed and screen-printed in Jim's studio in the East End of Glasgow. For this series of clock dials, Jim embraced the unpredictable nature of the screen printing process, improvising their layout and allowing glitches and overlaps to inform the outcome. His compositions are familiar but uncanny, drawing from his practice, where landscapes and urban scenes are abstracted into dreamscapes.
